process II

Same artwork, few layers in between.
Acrylics on canvas by Trish Taylor.

process...

During the process of layering, I take pictures of each stage because it helps me  and gives me inspiration for future paintings. Underneath each layer there are several paintings hidden... I love this process. It is pure exploration, discovery and pleasure. Sometimes frustration yes, when a layer destroys a flow that was there...only to create a new one.
As I am sick since past Saturday, I couldn't get out of bed to paint but as soon as I felt better, I ran into the studio to continue to work in this piece. It will be exhibited at two shows next year in February and March in Lake Havasu City AZ. I have a bunch of new canvases on the way and as soon as they arrive, I will be working like mad for the shows.
It's my favorite part of it all. The shows are fun of course but there's nothing like the free creative flow expression onto canvas...

more beauty after being broken...

imperfect beauty

Wabi-Sabi is in Japan as much as an ideal of beauty as in the West but in an opposite way. I wish our western culture would honor more the beauty within than trying to stay forever young and run after perfectionism.
Wabi-Sabi appeals to me even if I don't know much about it because it feels natural and strikes a cord deep down in my soul. Perfection is totally boring. And I was a perfectionist for most of my life, especially during my ballet career years. I think as we grow and age, we change our perception of things because we notice the aging process in ourselves and around us, in Nature for example. We become more and more aware about the impermanence of our lives. Finding acceptance in the natural process of life frees us from the fear of it. It can be a lifetime process, it might not happen in one day. But we loose less energy by going with the flow than trying to fight against it.

Trish Taylor Art at the Red Onion

Oh my! What a week! Last week was just crazy but in a good way. I started working part time at the RU Art Gallery and I am having a great time, my boss Tatiana is an artist form Russia who emigrated years ago to Lake Havasu. She's such an interesting, fun and smart woman and I love working with her.
A few of my artworks are now in her gallery but also at the popular Red Onion restaurant (with best coffee and chai in town by the way...). Thanks to the owner Steve who saw my work and said yes!
Sometimes you just have to do what you love, do it a lot and be patient. The Universe will provide you opportunities, when the time is right. It's all about timing.

Check out The Red Onion, Steve the owner has great taste and he's an artist too:
